Usually, a catheter is inserted into the bladder via urethra but a supra pubic catheter is inserted into the bladder via a cut in the tummy, few inches below the navel or belly button. This helps in draining urine without having to pass a tube through genital area, which makes it even more comfortable to wear. Your doctor might suggest you to use a suprapubic bladder catheter if your urethra is incapable of holding a catheter safely.
