What does GentleCath Pro Closed-System Kit Include?

GentleCath Pro Catheter Kit includes a range of supplies to help the user catheterize in the way that works best for him:

  • Intermittent Catheter: Pre-lubricated catheter with a soft silicone introducer tip coated with water-soluble lubricant allows for easy and convenient catheterization. Its introducer tip is designed to be inserted into the urethra and allows the catheter to pass through, helping it to avoid coming into contact with bacteria that may build up at the entrance to the urethra.
  • Urine Collection Bag: Self-contained urine bag allows the user to catheterize without touching the catheter while providing the convenience to use the catheter where and when he needs it. It also helps to measure the amount of fluid drained, or simply catheterize when a bathroom or toilet is not available.
  • Underpad: Placing this underneath the user when catheterizing can protect him, his immediate environment and his clothes from residual liquid.
  • Exam Gloves (pair): Wearing these powder-free vinyl gloves can support clean catheterization technique and may help to reduce the risk of infection.
  • Antiseptic (BZK) Pad: Using this can help the user to clean his urethral entrance and prepare himself for catheterizing.
  • Swab Sticks: Povidone-Iodine antiseptic swab sticks reduce bacteria and microorganisms on the skin. They are for external use and should be discarded after single use.

How to use GentleCath Pro Closed-System Catheter Kit?

  1. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  2. Withdraw the foreskin and wash the penis with an antiseptic swab stick, towelette or soap, and water.
  3. Open the peel pack and take out the GentleCath Pro catheter. Remove the plastic cap from the silicone "introducer tip". A slight twisting motion makes this easier.
  4. While holding the introducer guide in one hand, feed the pre-lubricated catheter forward, until the tip is about to come out of the flexible introducer tip. This helps give the introducer sufficient firmness to enter the urethral opening. Be careful not to push the catheter completely out of this tip.
  5. You can add additional lubricant to the loaded tip by swabbing gel from inside the plastic cap.
  6. Using your middle, ring and smallest fingers hold the penis with one hand. Insert the soft silicone tip into the urethral opening, using your other hand to guide the tip in. Continue to apply the necessary pressure to ensure that the catheter and silicone introducer tip stay in the urethral opening.
  7. Begin to advance the catheter into the urethra 1 to 2 inches at a time. Each 1 to 2-inch push will slightly "crinkle" the bag.
  8. After each push, use your other hand to pinch the split catheter guide to hold the catheter in place while you straighten the bag. Continue this procedure until the catheter has entered the bladder and urine begins to flow.
  9. When the urine starts to flow, push the catheter in a little (1 or 2 cms / half an inch) to make sure that it is fully inside the bladder.
  10. To make sure the bladder is emptied completely, remove the catheter with the bag attached and stop if more urine starts to flow before continuing to remove the catheter.
  11. Once the catheter is removed, grasp the bag at the corner where it says "TEAR HERE TO EMPTY" and tear the bag gently down towards the middle of the bag. This will allow you to dispose of the contents without any mess. Then discard the catheter.
  12. Wash your hands with soap and water.
