The main use of catheter is to remove fluids from bladder. They are specifically used when the patients cannot urinate by themselves. Catheters are generally used if there is injury to bladder or urethra and for people suffering from urinary incontinence. The use of catheter is not limited to these symptoms.
Reusing something maybe a smart way to save money and be eco-friendly but would this principle apply to medical devices too? Unless clearly specified as reusable, it is an absolute no-no, especially so with SUDs or single-use devices.
Urinary catheters are available in a large variety of sizes, materials and types. Selection of the kind of catheter to be used by the patient has to be made keeping in mind several factors such as medical need, expected period of use (whether short-term or long-term), personal choice and what are the risks involved in terms of infection.
